Sheema: Masheruka Town Council Mayor Charles Nkuruho Tugume last week allegedly assaulted his fellow officials ‘to near death’ accusing them of using the Town Council electricity for boiling drinking water.

The victims have been identified as Arinaitwe Rabbecca 28, a town agent Nyakambu ward and Keneth Tibemanya 40, a policeman both working in Masheruka Town Council.

According to Rabecca, she had just returned from her maternity leave and only wanted to make porridge for her baby but was shocked to see the mayor reacting to them badly.

“I requested the policeman to open for me to boil water for preparing porridge for my baby, but as soon we entered, the Mayor came with an extra ordinary anger, drunk and asked us why we were using the electricity for boiling water,” she said adding that “Within a minute he started beating the policeman who had just returned from his sick leave after spending two months at KIU hospital in Ishaka Bushenyi. When I tried to escape from the council hall while screaming, the mayor turned to me and gave me a heavy punch in my stomach which made me to collapse immediately.”

She was later taken to Mabaare health Centre III and was diagnosed with injuries in her uterus.

A case of assault has been opened at Masheruka police station vide SD REF 06/03/03/2020.

Tibemanya on the other hand said that he didn’t fight back because the mayor was too drunk. He added that he got some injuries in his back.

When contacted, ‘Commando’ Tugume tasked us to ask the Town Clerk where she was when he was beating the officials. However, the Town Clerk Diana Namara condemned the mayor’s act.
