US Military COVID-19 Cases Rise To 3,578 After Pentagon Reports 82 New Infections

Cases of Coronavirus among US Military are increasing by the day after the Department of Defence said in a press release on Wednesday that 82 additional army personnel have contracted the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total to 3,578.

So far, 85 US service members are currently hospitalized and 1,073 have recovered from the infection, the Defense Department said.
In addition, the Defence Department also reported 77 new COVID-19 cases among civilians within its ranks for an overall total of 5,734.

Center for Disease Control (CDC) Director Robert Redfield explained that  illness surveillance programs in the United States in front of a chart show statistics of patients seeking treatment for influenza-like illnesses during the daily Coronavirus task force briefing at the White House in Washington, U.S, on April 17, 2020.

Two new deaths were also reported among the civilians within the Defense Department, bringing the death toll to 25, the press release said.

To date, the United States has confirmed over 826,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 45,000 deaths as a result of the infection or in combination with underlying causes, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

The development comes as the respiratory illness continues to spread across the globe, leaving many dead and many countries’ economies in recession.
