The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng is set to address the nation about the government’s efforts to combat the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Uganda through using masks and to update the nation on the response to truck drivers, who are currently the biggest carriers of the virus into the country.
The televised national address will be aired at 1:00Pm across all radio and TV stations in the country, according officials from the Ministry of Health.
A tweet from the Ministry announcing the Ministerial Address reads thus;
“The Minister for Health, @JaneRuth_Aceng will address the public today at 1:00pm on the guidelines on use of face masks and Uganda’s response to truck drivers. The address will be live on @ubctvuganda and all other media houses. Stay tuned.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry also reports that the number of COVIDE-19 cases in Uganda has since reduced to 145, following directives from the President to stop using cumulative figures when giving the public updates about new infections.
The Ministry tweeted to that effect that; “Today (Wednesday), 20 May, 10 new COVID-19 cases confirmed. 9 new cases are truck drivers while 1 case is a contact to a confirmed truck driver.
Following a Presidential Directive of deducting all foreign truck drivers from Uganda’s case count, the confirmed COVID-19 cases now stand at 145
11 foreign truck drivers handed over to their country of origin
