Sheema: The Minister for Science Innovation and Technology Hon. Dr Elioda Tumwesigye Katsyamutwe on Monday donated relief food totaling to shs45m to religious leaders of all dominations in Sheema municipality.
The items included 1.35 tonnes of rice and 810 Kgs which was handed over to the District task force.
While handing over the donation, Dr Elioda said each religious leader would get 5Kgs of rice and 3kgs of beans since they are among those who were deeply affected by the current lock down when their worshiping placed were closed.
“Worshiping places are still closed to congregations thus no income, yet religious leaders have to stay at these places of worship to preside over scientific weddings and burials, they need to be assisted too,” he said.
Elioda further thanked religious Leaders for their good work of praying for the nation adding that they need to be kept strong so that they continue praying for the country, “even the Bible says it that, we should always feed those who are hungry and give a drink to those who are thirsty, he added.
The Minister revealed that his donation came at a time of thanking Almighty God who enabled him and his fellow parliamentary colleagues to win the court case that was meant to throw them out of parliament.
While receiving the donation, the area RDC Frank Kyereere, who is also the head of district task force, thanked him and noted that it was Elioda’s 8th donation to the District since COVID-19 out break.
Some of the religious leaders that received Minister’s donation thanked him for considering them amidst tough days of lock down but on top of that appreciating their work of feeding God’s sheep spiritually.
After donating, Minister urged the public to obey presidential directives and Ministry of health guidelines on COVID-19 by putting on recommended quality face masks that should be 100% cotton with two layers but not merely any piece of cloth.
