You’re Your Own Enemies: Furious Sheema District Chairperson Shifts Water Project Over ‘Nfunirawa’ Fights

Sheema: The Sheema District Chairman David Kabigumira has accused Sheema North constituency Councilors for putting all their energies in fighting him yet by doing so the areas they represent ends up missing out on social services from government.

It should be noted that for the past few years, Kabigumira faced extraordinary opposition in Sheema North when the district was trying to build a multi billion water source to supply free water to all Sheema North villages.

The angry residents, led by some of their local Councilors and Chairmen, attacked Kabigumira’s vehicle with sticks and stones, accusing him of wanting to steal their water to sell it to people in Sheema South and Bushenyi District.

Speaking to our reporter on Tuesday, Kabigumira, said after being chased  by the people, he and the contractors decided to channel the water to Sheema South constituency where people are calm and ready to receive  government services.

“Let me tell you this, all demonstrations, defiance and chaos start from Sheema North and what annoys me is that they are engineered by you leaders. When we tried to give you free water, you chased us with sticks and I was saved by security men, we brought pipes to build your bridge in Kigarama but it was like I had killed a person.

But when we sat with Sheema South people and their leaders, they were ready to receive the services.

We came, loaded our pipes onto a truck and drove them to Kitagata in Sheema South. We bought land in Shuuku and constructed there a multi billion water source that will not only serve Sheema South but also Sheema municipality,” he said.

He added that; “Never blame anyone because you drink stagnant, dirty water, blame yourselves because you are the first and last enemies of yourselves, period!”

His remarks came after Councilors of Kakindo Town Council complained about Council staff members fetching water for domestic use from a pond, and that people face high risk of contracting waterborne diseases.

The same matter was also raised by Councilors of greater Masheruka and Kigarama Sub-counties, who said that it was absurd to find that the Kigarama Health Centre 111 doesn’t have clean and safe water.
