The Police in Entebbe have in custody two Pakistani nationals who were arrested over allegations of robbing money from a Mobile Money operator.
According to deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, the two suspects were arrested on Monday and have been identified as Hussein Umar, 18, and Akasah Faizo.
Owoyesigire said Umar and Faizo were arrested after they robbed money from James Ongom, a M-pesa agent in Entebbe.
It is alleged that the two hire vehicles and are always in company of either their sister Talal Kaibo or their grandmother, Wahil Ibrahim, 64, who are currently on the run. The two prime suspects approach their victim and send him or her for water or any refreshment as they rob whatever is in the cabin.
If he or she refuses to move, they signal the person in the car (lady) to come and produce a spray agent suspected to be chloroform, which makes the victim pass out and thereafter they rob the victim’s money.
“The suspects have been conducting their criminal activities in Katwe, Jinja Municipality, Abayita Ababiri, Mbale and Kabalagala Townships,” Owoyesigire said.
He added that “So far two victims have reported to Entebbe Police Station and investigations are still ongoing. Three vehicles that were used in these thefts have also been impounded after they were tracked down with the help of the CCTV cameras.”
He also noted that; “We want to caution all mobile money and M-Pesa agents to remain vigilant and always report suspicious people to the police.”
