The Ministry of Education and Sports in a statement sent to the Chief Administrative Officers, urged parents not to send their children to schools on Friday to enable teachers celebrate their day.
Mr Alex Kakooza informed the public that teachers will not be in their respective schools on Friday as they mark the teachers’ day in Fort Portal, while others will celebrate the day in their respective districts.
‘’This serves to inform all DEOs, Parents , learners , other stakeholders and the general public that teachers will be celebrating their day on Friday October 5, 2018 and therefore will not be at the schools. You are requested to accord them the necessary support’’. Mr Kakooza wrote in his statement dated September 18th.
However he clarified that those schools that would wish to continue teaching can go on because the day was not declared a public holiday.
He said teachers have continuously complained in the past that they are always not able to celebrate their day because they work restlessly without a break
Meanwhile, according to ICT minister Frank Tumwebaze the celebrations will be held at St Leo’s College Kyegobe playgrounds, Kabarole District under the theme ‘’The right to Education means the right to qualified teachers”.
Tumwebaze said that the cabinet noted that it was important to front the rights of teachers before spearheading the right to Education.
