Kampala: National Unity Platform (NUP) party 2021 presidential candidate Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has Tuesday unveiled the NUP membership cards to be used in the forthcoming general elections.
During the launch held at the party headquarters in Kamwokya, the NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi revealed that membership cards will cost Shs1000 each.
Party President Bobi Wine said that a few weeks ago, their pressure group People Power movement was criticized by some politicians and members of the public for being disorganized but he is immensely proud of the new structures and organization that they have embarked on under NUP.
“Others went to the extent of advising us to get a centre number since the 2021 elections are seen as a democratic examination,” Bobi Wine said, adding that; “It is my pleasure to re-announce to them that yes, we have a centre number and we have a home and now we have party membership cards.”
The legislator added that in the coming days, the party will be rolling out a massive show off of support from the people of Uganda, adding that many people have already donated to them offices nationwide which will be opened soon.
Bobi Wine called up all change-seeking Ugandans who don’t have a party and those who would like to feel represented, to join NUP because of its national cause.
This comes days after Bobi Wine took over leadership of the NUP political party as its new President, replacing Moses Nkonge Kibalama, who said this was a merger between NUP and People Power at the party’s delegates conference on July 14th, 2020.
“The National Unity Reconciliation and Development Party was formed in December 2004 and we certified government requirements. Up to date, there is nothing lacking in terms of accountability; we come here with clean hands,” Kibalama said during the ceremony to unveil the NUP.
