Kampala: After almost a year without a substantive deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, Makerere University has finally shortlisted three candidates for the position.
The candidates are; Prof. Anthony Mugisha, Associate Professor Allan Mulengani Katwalo and Professor William Bazeyo, who is serving in the same position in acting capacity.
In April 2019, the High Court quashed Bazeyo’s appointment on grounds that he was recruited irregularly but Professor Ezra Suruma, the Chancellor Makerere University, appointed him in acting capacity. Bazeyo has held the office following the elevation of Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe to the university’s top job in 2017.
According to information from the university communications office, the three professors will hold public presentations on August 10, 2020.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration), will report to and assist the Vice-Chancellor in the performance of his or her functions and in that regard shall oversee the finances and administration of the University and be responsible for the Planning and Development of the University.
The development comes days after the University Management advertised that it was seeking applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to take up the position of the Second Deputy Vice-Chancellor who is to be a member of the University Executive,
