Although there was a mix-up of company names in our earlier story about the COVID-19 spread among employees, we would like to clarify that the staff who tested positive are not those of Total Uganda but Toyota Uganda.
Furthermore, we would like to clarify that it’s Toyota Uganda whose Namanve offices have since closed as one of the ways of controlling the spread of the disease.
Total Uganda offices are wide open across the country, operating normally and no case of COVID-19 has been reported among any of their staff
We reproduce the whole story about Toyota’s closure below again and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience it might have caused the Management and Staff of Total Uganda:
“The Management of Toyota Uganda has announced closure of their offices and entire business facilities in Namanve Industrial Park and Kampala for at least two weeks, after some of the staff tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) last week.
The closure was announced in a public notice issued on Monday August 10, 2020, by Mahmood Omar, the Managing Director, which states in part thus;
“Toyota Uganda statement on Covid-19 cases
TOYOTA
Last week, some of our staff at our Kampala branch reported feeling unwell with mild flu like symptoms. As a precautionary measure, we requested that they be tested. Interim results from Ministry of Health have been received and three (3) of our staff have so far tested positive for COVID-19.
The 3 employees have been referred to Mulago Hospital for further observation and treatment, while the rest of our Kampala branch staff, in line with our safety procedures and Ministry of Health guidelines, have been requested to stay at home under the mandatory 14-days quarantine as the situation continues to be monitored.
In the meantime, our Kampala branch at First Street, Industrial area, will be temporarily closed effective today as additional steps, as guided by the authorities, are put in place and all our staff confirmed in good health.
Strict safety measures and SOP guidelines continue to be followed at our Head office in Namanve Industrial Park as well as the rest of our countrywide branches, which are open.
Toyota Uganda is working closely with the Ministry of Health to help fight the spread of the Corona virus. This is a challenging time for us and all our stakeholders, but we assure everyone concerned that we are fully committed to play our part; whatever it takes to protect our staff and our clients.”
