Uganda Registers 11 COVID-19 Deaths As Cases Rise To 1353

Kampala: The Ministry of Health has announced that Uganda on Wednesday registered 2 Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 11, out of 1,353 cumulative confirmed cases, with 1,141 recoveries.

According to the Ministry, the two fatalities are residents of Kampala Metropolitan Area. One is a 60-year-old male of Indian origin who passed on at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) and a 55 year-old Ugandan male who passed on while admitted in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mulago National Referral Hospital. They both had signs and symptoms  consistent with COVID-19 and results from the laboratories confirmed SARS-COV2.

In the same vein, results from samples tested on 12th August, 2020 confirmed twenty-one (21) new COVID-19 cases that include, eight (8) truck drivers who arrived from Kenya via Malaba Point of Entry, Three (3) contacts to previously confirmed cases in Kampala Metropolitan Area and one (1) returnee from South Sudan.

The Ministry also revealed that regarding the nine (9) alerts, five (5) are from Kampala Metropolitan Area while four (4) are from Masaka, Kasese, Luwero and Iganga Districts.

It was also revealed that twenty-eight (28) truck drivers (24 Kenyans, 2 Congolese, 1 Burundian and 1 Tanzanian) tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
