Fire gutted a boy’s dormitory at Kabale Brainstorm High School in Kabale district on Wednesday night destroying student’s properties worth millions.
According to Erasmus Habasa the School Director, the dormitory started burning at around 8pm just as students had left for their evening preps.
Habasa revealed that the burnt dormitory was accommodating 50 students.
The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team was able to contain the fire before it spread to other buildings.
However, the police fire tender struggled to access the school premises because of narrow gate and high concrete fence. It also took the team long to break the burglar proof windows and access the dormitory.
Although no student was injured, all 50 metallic beds along with student suitcases, mattresses and personal property were destroyed by the fire.
Augustus Nakitali, the Officer in Charge of Kabale Police Station said that no student was injured by the fire. Nakitali said they have commenced investigations to establish the cause of the fire.
“The cause of the fire could not be readily established; investigations are underway,” said Nakitari.
Cases regarding fire in schools are rampant, last week, fire gutted Nalya high school in Kampala and several properties were destroyed.
