Police in Mitooma District have arrested three people in connection with the murder of Jackson Kaginda, the Mutara Sub-county chairperson.

Kaginda’s body was on Monday morning found hanging on an eucalyptus tree in Ryansana Cell, Kashenyi Ward in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.

Mr. Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson, yesterday said the people were arrested from within Bushenyi Municipality.

“We are steadily pursuing the matter and shall get the real people who committed the offence,” Mr. Tumusiime said, adding that the hunt for the suspects is still on.
Mr. Tumusiime also said findings from a postmortem carried out at Kitagata Hospital indicate that the 58 year-old was suffocated.

The deceased, a retired army sergeant is believed to have been killed in the night while returning home in Mutara from Kampala International University Teaching Hospital in Bushenyi where he had taken his sick father-in-law for treatment.
He was driving his personal vehicle. It is not clear whether his assailants were in his vehicle or intercepted him in the forest which is about two kilometres from Ishaka Town.

Mr. Tumusiime had earlier said police found the driver’s seat and one of the back seats bent, indicating that a scuffle ensued inside the vehicle. The body was found hanging on a tree 20 metres away from the road where the vehicle was parked. Kaginda, a prominent coffee dealer, was serving a third term as the LC3 chairperson of Mutara Sub-county.

His remains were buried at his home in Mutara Trading Centre, Bikungu Parish on Wednesday.
He is survived by a widow and six children
