City Businessman Arrested Over Fraud

Police in Kampala are holding a reknown city business man for allegedly obtaining money from school pupils worth sixty million (UGX60M).

Arthur Butare Tabu, the Education Development Foundation Ltd (EDF) managing director was yesterday (Thursday) picked by police detectives of Kampala metropolitan Headquarters from his hideouts and brought to Central Police Station Kampala to answer charges of obtaining money by false pretense.

According to police file GEF 132/2018 of Central Police Station Kampala, Arthur allegedly collected money from four hundred school pupils of Ray of Hope Junior School, Isingiro District on condition that he will give them bursaries in their Education Career.

Records at police states that Athur collected one hundred Fifty thousand shillings (150,000/-) from every pupil but has not paid the school where the pupils are studying from,for the period of six months.

Sources at police told Spy reporter that Arthur has been hiding from the time he knew that he had a debt to service.

However, he was later released on police bond on condition that him and other directors of the company should look for money and pay the school dues for the pupils without fail.

When contacted on phone, Mr.Arthur said that he knows the matter but Rays of hope Junior school is not the only school they are dealing with adding that the Management of the company shall look into the matter and see what to do for the school.
