Kampala: The Parliamentary appoints committee has approved the Kakumiro district woman MP Robinah Nabbanja to serve as the Prime Minister of Uganda replacing Dr Ruhakana Rugunda Ndugu.
“I will work hard to ensure that every Ugandan is served equally irrespective of their status,” said Nabbanja shortly after approval. Nabbanja becomes the first woman to serve in this capacity in Uganda’s history.
The Motion to support Nabbanja’s appointment was moved by the Kinkiizi East MP who is also the Minister-designate of ICT and National Guidance Dr Chris Baryomunsi who said that Uganda was proud of having a female Prime Minister which also supports article 33 of the constitution.
The Parliament in the same vein approved the appointment of Hon Jessica Alupo as new Vice President of Uganda and the motion to approve Katakwi Woman, MP Alupo was moved by Ruhinda North MP, Thomas Tayebwa.
Alupo was declared Vice President by Deputy Speaker Anita Among after all the members of Parliament present voted in favour of her appointment with only one member voting against the motion.
Upon her appointment, Alupo thanked President Museveni for entrusting her with the opportunity to serve in the position adding that she will not spare any energy in serving the country.
Alupo who now officially replaces Edward Ssekandi becomes the second-ever woman to occupy the country’s second-highest office in the country.
