Uganda Airlines Tightens Passengers’ Safety With World Class Training Of Its Cabin Crew Members Ahead Of AOC For Duo New Airbus Planes

In a bid to provide world-class safety to their passengers in case of an emergency, Uganda Airlines has offered extensive training of more than 40 of its cabin crew members in safety emergency procedures including evacuation of passengers, first Aid, fire fighting, ditching (water landing), smoke evacuation and crew incapacitation among others.

According to sources, the comprehensive trainings are in preparation for flights on the newly acquired brand new Airbus A330-800 Neo, set to begin soon.

Required type rating trainings have been carried out in Toulouse (Airbus Europe manufacturing Base), Dubai (Emirates Aviation Academy) and the latest have been carried out at base (Entebbe).

In Toulouse (France), the Uganda airlines crew and aircraft dispatchers trained by Airbus instructors were offered an Airbus manufacturer’s training on a A330-800neo.

In Dubai at the Emirates Academy, the cabin crew were trained ditching drills, Airbus A330-800 Neo specifics training including shouted commands and exit operations in a normal and abnormal situation.

“All these trainings including the ones carried out recently on Wednesday and Thursday at the Hub (Entebbe) were carried out by certified UCAA (Uganda Civil Aviation Authority) ATO- (Approved Training Organization),” a source said.

All the above trainings are a means of compliance as required by the regulator (UCAA) for operations of commercial Airlines before certification.

It should be noted that with the fulfillment of the above requirements in line with other departmental engagements and fulfillment towards the same goal, it puts the young Airline in its final stages of being completely certified with an AOC (Air Operator Certificate) for the two lately acquired Airbus A330-800neo.

“This means that esteemed passengers and Ugandans at large should happily prepare for the Uganda airlines long haul (long route) flights,” the source said, adding: “The Airline will be largely privileged to expand your choice of destinations.”

An Air Operator Certificate is the regulatory license that okays an airline to operate scheduled and charter commercial operations of passengers and cargo as applicable for revenue. Without the AOC, an airline is not allowed to fly passengers and cargo for revenue.

Some Of Uganda Airlines Members On Safety Emergency Procedures Training

Among the requirements for obtaining an AOC vary from country to country, but are generally defined as:

  1. Sufficient personnel with the required experience for the type of operations requested.
  2. Airworthy aircraft, suitable for the type of operations requested.
  3. Acceptable systems for the training of crew and the operation of the aircraft (Operations Manual).
  4. A quality system to ensure that all applicable regulations are followed.
  5. The appointment of key accountable staff, who are responsible for specific safety-critical functions such as training, maintenance, and operations.
  6. Carriers Liability Insurance (for Airlines) – Operators are to have sufficient insurance to cover the injury or death of any passenger carried.
  7. Proof that the operator has sufficient finances to fund the operation.
  8. The operator has sufficient ground infrastructure, or arrangements for the supply of sufficient infrastructure, to support its operations into the ports requested.
