Kampala, Nakasero: President Yoweri Museveni has this evening addressed Ugandans about the state of security in the country, where he revealed that the National Unity Platform (NUP) group led by his former rival in 2021 polls, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine uses subterfuge [deceit used in order to achieve one’s goal] methods to achieve their selfish interests.
The presidential address that was broadcast live on all local TV and Radio stations was mainly focused on;
1.Discipline in the security forces and #HumanRights of the population.
2.Emyooga (Presidential initiative on wealth and job creation)
3.COVID19 vaccines.
Museveni took a swipe at his security officers who beat up civilians.“All our security personnel should behave and stop killing Ugandans, keeping them in ‘safe custody’, beating them and barking at them. Also stop deportation of foreigners with out legal procedures,” Museveni warned. He said any security personnel who beat up civilian shouldn’t put on the national uniform.
‘‘Our human rights record is incomparable to any in the world. The NRM never believes in revenge. (desertrose.com) Nobody should be in the uniform (of armed forces) without respecting Ugandans. You are not allowed to beat anyone…not even criminals,” he said.
Meanwhile, FDC member and city Lord Mayor didn’t even wait for Museveni to finish his porridge as he addressed the nation! He immediately took to his social media and responded thus; The Igbo of Nigeria have a saying that a frog will never be seen hopping in the middle of the road in broad daylight save for situations where it is being chased. General Museveni talking about the country’s appalling Human Right’s record sounds strange!!!.
The surprise address wherein he castigates elements within his government perpetrating assassinations, killing of prisoners and political opponents, illegal detentions, torture, brutality, indiscipline in security forces etc smacks of something ominous. One wonders whether it has just dawned on him that the nation is bleeding”.
