Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has confiscated Sure Deal beauty products following the possession of the standards logo without the authentication from the bureau yet beauty products don’t meet the required standards.
Godwin Muhwezi the UNBS spokes person noted that on several occasions the standards body has written to Sure Deal beauty center warning on the use of the logo on their products yet none of their products has ever been certified.
“We sent letters to the beauty center to stop using the logo because we had not certified them,” Mr Muhwezi said.
Sure Deal beauty centre deals in beauty products like skin lightening creams, glycerin, soap and other products but according to Muhwezi after testing some of these products they were found containing one of the most dangerous chemical hydroquinone, a product that was banned from the Ugandan market.
Hydroquinone has the potential to damage inner organs such as the kidney and skin scaring.
“The products, which also can help to clear dark skin patches, spots and age or pregnancy spots, have a number of side effects, including skin discoloration, mild burning and skin dryness,” he said.
Efforts to talk to the owners of Sure Deal Beauty Centre were futile.
