Hot100 FM Succumbs To Pressure From Competitors, Announces Closure

By Spy Uganda

In 2007, a new urban youth radio station was birthed in Bukoto and it went on to be one of the most listened to radio stations in Uganda.

The blazing Hot 100 FM, a sister station to Simba FM enjoyed success in its first five years but slowly, the listenership curve went on a downward slope.

It started as a Hip Hop & RnB radio station, but it failed to cope with competition brought about by new market entrants like XFM, and Galaxy FM.

It was forced to rebrand into a comedy radio station in 2017, something that also failed to work out.

According to our ever on alert snoops, the station bosses have been frustrated with the poor Return On Investment (ROI) of the business thus no reason to keep it running when they are making losses.

Well, the latest information on our desk indicates that the station has been officially closed.

“Dear Clients and Fans,

Over the last 20 years, we have entertained you – the young, wild and free – with a fresh mix of urban hip music, entertainment and news.

We pioneered a trendy Ugandan radio format that led to the rise of an urban homegrown music genre and culture – “Luga-flow”. Along the way, we popularized Ugandan hip hop artists with radio airplay, concerts and dance parties.

While we have truly enjoyed doing this, we believe that the time has come for us to move on and perhaps continue to serve you in different ways, using newer and more efficient platforms. Platforms that may increase engagement and value.

Therefore, with effect from 11th March 2022, we will discontinue our official broadcasts as HOTIO0 on the frequency 100.9 MHz.

To our advertisers, our team will be reaching out to you, to ensure that all reconciliations and contractual obligations are concluded, hassle-free.

We do thank you all for your support through the years, and for the confidence, you placed in HOTIOO.
