KAMPALA, Uganda: The high court criminal division in Kampala has refused to grant a plea bargain to Brian Bagyenda, the son of Internal Security Organisation (ISO) Director Col. Frank Bagyenda Kaka.
Bagyenda alongside other two people are accused of allegedly murdering Enid Twijukye, a former Makerere University Business School (MUBS) student, who was Bagyenda’s lover. The suspects had confessed to have murdered the young girl and requested for a plea bargain so that court can hand them a lenient sentence upon end of the trial. But the three suspects were shocked after the trial judge Anthony Ojok informed them that their prayers hadn’t been granted as the prosecution and defence lawyers had not reached the understanding. “I have a backlog of other cases to handle in a short period of time so if the plea bargain process has failed , you go and face full trial.” Justice Ojok ruled.
The lawyer of the accused Mubiru Nsubuga told SpyUganda that he was going to challenge Justice’s Ojok’s ruling in High Court. The suspects remain at the mercy of the principal Judge to assign them a new judge to handle the matter. Prime suspect Bagyenda is accused alongside Innocent Bainomugisha, a cleaner and Vincent Rwahwire, a casual laborer. According to State prosecution, the trio on January 4, 2017 at Njobe Road in Nakawa Division, Kampala District, murdered Enid Twijukye.
