KCCA Stranded With Shs4Bn Litigation Costs

By Spy Reporter

Kampala, Uganda: The Kampala Capital  City Authority (KCCA) is drowning in debts worth over Shs4Bn which  arose from legal costs and damages awarded by court from cases handled and lost during Jennifer Musisi’s tenure.

The council meeting held on Tuesday chaired by Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago at City Hall revealed that most of the cases lost involved compensations of people or complainants from the Kampala Land Board. However, Lukwago said that before all these monies are paid out, KCCA needs to do a forensic audit into how these cases were handled.  Lukwago said that “We need to do  a thorough forensic audit into how all these cases were handled and lost. You may find that there is some foul play.”

This comes at a time when many of KCCA’s operations are  currently hindered because  the Authority’s accounts were attached by many of their debtors who are demanding immediate payment.
