Kampala, Uganda: The Federation of Performing Artistes of Uganda has met the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, over the new regulations set to govern the entertainment industry.

MP Kato Lubwama addresss the Speaker as others follow

The meeting took place on Monday morning in the speaker’s office. Recently, government unveiled a set of regulations targeting artistes and all stakeholders in the entertainment industry. The proposed regulations require artistes, comedians and events organisers  to register with the Gender Ministry, submit their works for approval and documentation, secure a valid practicing certificate for performance and stay clear of illicit drugs. The proposed regulations will also require artistes to sign a code of ethics, ensure decency, proper hygiene and restricts their performances at different venues on the same day among others.

The proposed regulations however sparked off outrage among artistes, with many saying they will kill talent in Uganda. Others believe  the regulations targeting the People Power leader Bobi Wine, whose concerts have recently been banned because of his turning them into political rallies.
