Kampala: The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has called upon leaders and Ugandans at large to treat Indians as equal citizens in order to promote peace in the country.
”Yesterday, I graced the occasion to celebrate 100 years in memory of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj at Nsambya on the invitation of BAPS Swaminarayan Temple Kampala. Swami was very instrumental in the resettlement of the Indian Community in Uganda. I noted that Swami lived a life of extreme humility and service above self, which is a key lesson for all of us, especially leaders to always treat people equally and not front personal but community interests,” Tayebwa said.
Tayebwa made the comments on Friday during the celebrations to mark 100 years of Pramukh Swami Maharaj noting that the government is trying hard to see that Indians are not treated like second-hand citizens and should also share the same benefits and righst as Ugandans.
“Humility is a virtue that should be driving all of us, because in the end the bodies will rot, but the spirit that would have based on humanity will always live on,” he said.
Tayebwa further applauded the Indian community for sharing with Ugandans, noting that it shows how much they value the people in this country.

Pranukh Swami Maharaj is a rare soul that totally remained absorbed in God and transformed the livelihood of Indians especially women. It is now 100 years since Pramukh Swami Maharaj left an impact on the Indian Community especially by changing the livelihoods and welfare of women.
