Head of State House Anti Corruption Unit, Brig Gen Henry Isoke has said that the easest way to fight corruption out of Uganda is by ensuring transparency and accountability in all public sectors.
He made the remarks during a Radio One talk show dubbed Spectrum where he was hosted with Inspector General of Government (IGG) Betty Kamya, Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) Executive Director, Agaba Marlon.
While discussing the war against corruption, Isoke noted that the vice would be no more in the country if there was constant mobilization, accountability & transparency in all sectors of the public.
”We must be equipped in all areas, especially involving the masses because there is no institution which can fight corruption alone, so its an obligation of all the citizens,” added Isoke.
Meanwhile, Isoke empathized that despite corruption being a challenge, institutions have been put in place to fight it.
”if we collectively work together as institutions we can eliminate the vise,” added Isoke.
State House Anti Corruption Unit has registered a huge success against corruption and has been able to recover over UGX30 billion in taxpayers’ money through prosecutions, and other measures used to compel corrupt officials to refund embezzled public funds.
The Unit has so far investigated different public servants for graft, including members of parliament, accounting officers, security personnel, and directors of several government agencies and commissions among other Gov’t big fish.
In addition to the above, the Unit has also ensured the safe return of over 600 Ugandans stranded after being trafficked to Arab countries.
It has also conclusively investigated over 10,000 cases and interdicted over 200 government workers from public offices. SH-ACU was established under Article 99(4) of the constitution of Uganda, which gives the President executive powers to either directly or indirectly perform his duties or through officers subordinate to him.
Launched on 10th December 2018, SH-ACU coordinates with all constitutionally mandated agencies to ensure that complaints raised by citizens are resolved.
The Unit also acts as a link between H.E. the President, citizens, and Anti- Corruption agencies in relation to Anti-Corruption issues.
