Uganda Medical Association (U.M.A) executive members have fumed against their president Dr. Odongo Samuel Oledo for dragging the Association into Uganda’s dirty politics.

In a statement released Monday morning, the Association Executive Committee condemned Oledo’s ”unprofessional” acts when he mobilized medical students and fronted them before President Museveni in Kololo to praise him for accepting to lead Uganda for last decades and asking him to stand again in 2026.

“Your excellency, thank you. You have uplifted us (medical practitioners). We kneel before you after assessing that you are capable. We have assessed that you have the power. You have everything needed. Help us and contest again in 2026 and take us ahead as you secure our future. We want Uganda to reach where God expects it to be,” Dr Oledo happily said while on knees during NRM Youth Symposium In Kololo on 3rd December.

Association’s Vice President, Dr. Edith Nakku Joloba in a statement clarifies that their President attended the particular meeting in his personal capacity but not as U.M.A and his communications at that meeting were not representing his official position at U.M.A.

”U.M.A President, was recorded in several clips making statements at the NRM Youth Symposium at Kololo, alongside some medical students and nurses; persons who did not represent U.M.A NEC or U.M.A at that meeting,” reads UMA’s statement adding;

”UMA dissociates itself from any and all partisan political actions or acts, and is constitutionally required to do so.”

Dr Nakku has since asked UMA members to keep calm ”as our internal systems handle this matter with the utmost care. The U.M.A NEC is committed to continue to serve members of U.M.A in all their diversity.”

”U.M.A is committed to remain neutral to and to serve all Ugandan doctors and persons from all the political dispensations of, and in Uganda and globally,” says Dr Nakku.

UMA brings together more than 7000 Medical Doctors in Uganda and the diaspora with the mission of welfare and professionalism of doctors in order to deliver quality health and healthcare to the population of Uganda.
