Abitex, MC Charged With 13 Counts For Freedom City Stamped, Granted Bail

Events promoter Abby Musinguzi aka Abitex and his MC Jjuuko Francis have been charged with 13 counts over Freedom City stampede that led to the death of over 10 people.

Abitex was earlier charged with nine offenses of rash and negligent, appearing before Makindye Court grade one magistrate Iga Adiru today, Abitex and his MC denied all the charges and applied for bail which was granted at Ugx2million cash each and ordered them to return to court on February 7, 2023.

Court also ordered their sureties to execute a non-cash bond of Shs20m each.

The prosecution team is arguing that Musinguzi, Jjuuko and “others still at large….endangered people’s lives by closing other outlets from the venue gates, leaving only one small gate which could not allow over 20,000 people to move out safely”.

If found guilty, the accused face a jail term not exceeding seven years, a fine or both, according to Penal Code Act.
