Kampala: Uganda Cranes has ended the AFCON 2021 qualifiers in grief after being ousted by Malawi at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantrye at 1-0 goal.
Richard Mbulu’s diving header past goalkeeper Denis Onyango put Malawi ahead by the opening quarter an hour of the game.
The goal arrived after Robin Ngalande released roving right back Stanley Sanudi who executed the cross from the right for Mbulu to head home off a diving effort in the 15th minute.
The visitors lost defender Brian Ronald Mukiibi Ddungu through injury and his place was taken by the Uganda U-20 captain Garvin Kizito Mugweri towards the end of the opening half.
It is Kizito’s debut on the senior team as another 45minutes await Uganda Cranes to make amends or get eliminated at the expense of Malawi who last qualified for the AFCON finals in 2010.
