Gulu: The interim Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) chairperson in Gulu District Alex Odongo Okoya has vowed to revamp the party in Gulu and other northern Uganda districts.
Okoya, who is currently the Chairperson LC II Tegwana Parish, in Pece Division, Gulu municipality, was appointed interim UPC Chairperson last month following the death of Benjamin Oola Ameda, who succumbed to a stroke in August.
Okoya pledged to mobilize and recruit new party members to enable UPC win elective offices.
Late Ameda was the party’s Chairperson from 2005 to 2019.
However, during his tenure, UPC struggled to regain its olden days’ political glory which Okoya has vowed to rejuvenate ahead of 2021 general elections
He is expected to guide the UPC until May 2020 while the party organizes the National Council and Delegates’ Conferences in November and May 2019/ 2020 respectively – proceeding the Presidential and Parliamentary nominations slated for August 2020
Meanwhile, the party has invited Kenya politician Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o as guest speaker at the 7th Apollo Milton Obote Memorial Lecture in Kampala slated for this Thursday.
Prof. Nyong’o is the incumbent Governor of Kisumu County and former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
