Kampala: The Public Service Commission has rejected the job application for prominent businessman and former New Vision CEO, Robert Kabushenga, over lack of minimum qualifications for the role of Executive Director at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
Kabushenga confirmed the development in a statement posted on his X account noting thus; “I’ve been notified by the Public Service Commission that I do NOT meet the minimum requirements for the job of Executive Director of KCCA. I do not hold a Masters Degree. For this reason, I will not make to the shortlist. So, it ends here for me. In the meantime I will keep left!” the now coffee farmer under Rugeyo farm conceded.
However, some social media users including Andrew Irumba Katusabe, the CEO of this mighty website castigated Kabushenga for being a job seeker instead of creating job opportunities for himself and the youth, whom they’ve been telling that they’re the leaders of tomorrow, which never comes.
Irumba argued that the 53-year-old Kabushenga, with his vast experience, should not be competing for jobs alongside the younger generation, but rather focusing on leading and mentoring them.
”But really, at your age and all the positions God has allowed you to occupy in this banana Republic, does it still make sense for you to be in a queue with the youth seeking for a job?! Aren’t you supposed to be a job maker at that age and experience?! God.” Irumba wondered.
With the complexity and significant influence the position holds over the future of the city, the vacancy remains a highly competitive with other top candidates including the acting ED Frank Rusa Nyakaana, former managing director of the National Social Security Fund, Richard Byarugaba, Sydney Asubo who previously served as head of the Financial Intelligence Authority among other candidates.
The office fell vacant when President Museveni ordered the sacking of Ms Dorothy Kisaka and her deputy David Luyimbazi as well as the director for public health, Dr Denis Okello, over negligence in the Kiteezi Landfill tragedy.
During the tragedy, over 32 people were killed when tonnes of garbage collapsed on their homes in August. Kisaka, Luyimbazi and Okello who have been on remand in prison were recently granted bail pending prosecution for their alleged act of negligence in the Kiteezi tragedy.
While dismissing Kisaka-led KCCA, President Museveni also ordered the Public Service ministry to advertise the positions and fill it with suitably qualified public administrators.
This was first time the position has been advertised, as it was previously filled through presidential appointments.
