Masaka: While hunting for votes in Kalangala District to oust President Museveni, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and his campaign team and included his top security team were arrested. However, Bobi was airlifted to his home in Magere, a Kampala suburb, leaving his entire team and closest fellows in police custody.
The team was yesterday produced and charged in Masaka Magistrates Court presided over by Chief magistrate Charles Yeteise who released most of them on 200,000 cash bail, although they couldn’t process release orders in time because banks were already closed and therefore couldn’t pay the said fees, so they still slept in the coolers.

The magistrate read, “it is alleged that the large group of more than 120 NUP supporters were captured on CCTV cameras and several video footage, while deflating tyres of Police motor vehicles, inciting violence, obstructing police officers on duty, violating the health and safety protocols among other various traffic offences.”

After reading the above charges for the suspects and they all denied the charges, defence lawyers who were headed by Fred Musisi applied for cash bail, saying that the offences were bailable and also cited the need to access health care for some of the suspects who were visibly in pain, claiming that they were tortured while in detention.
Also in defence, some of the suspects pleaded not guilty to the counts of inciting violence and acts to spread an infectious disease whereas Eddie Mutwe and three others were charged with assaulting police officers hence remanding them till January 19, 2021.
Now, since elections will be held on 14th this month, this technically knocks out Bobi Wine’s close security team from guarding their boss on the very important day of the election and after, yet this is the time he mostly needed his team. Unless the legal team moves faster to secure their release bail, Eddie Mutwe and team may miss out voting for their favorite candidate.
