For Uganda to attain middle income status, the people of Kasese district,Apaa and other areas must all first attain peace, otherwise this will remain a dream, and we can only attain this through dialogue.

This is according to former Archbishop Church of Uganda His most Rev.Henry Luke Orombi.

Orombi was delivering his speech on the hot spot areas of Apaa sub-County,Kasese,Bundibugyo and Tororo Districts on Monday as the Chairman of “Peace and Conflict transformation  committee” under the Inter-Religious council of Uganda(IRCU) at their head offices in Namirembe,Kampala.

He said that following the previous attacks on the palace of the Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere, Kasese people now are asking for dialogue between the government of Uganda and the cultural institution, release on bail all the people who have been detained for over a year now, allow the Omusinga to visit his people on a guided tour to remove suspicion that he could have been killed.

“People want a review on the decentralization policy with focus on merits and demerits of creating ethnic based districts” Orombi noted.

He however underscored the need to review the constitution and the traditional or cultural leaders’ act, 2011 to better operationalize relations between cultural institutions in the same geo cultural space and other power centers, and provide humanitarian assistance to displaced people in the hot spot areas and put in place long term rehabilitation and resettlement places among others.

“The issues of peace are Paramount not only for realization of social harmony and national stability, but also for ensuring holistic human development. It estimated that by 2021 Uganda will have closed the threshold to join middle income earning nation, it’s however doubtful if this goal will be achieved without attaining peace for all” he said.
