Sheema: Mbarara archdiocese Archbishop His Grace Paul Kamuza Bakyenga eulogised former Mbarara municipality Town clerk David Bashakara during his burial in Mushanga, Kabwohe Sheema district on Thursday, which was attended by thousands of mourners.
Bakyenga said that “Bashakara served God with all his heart without fear or favour.” He added that “Bashakara has been neither segregative nor sectarian.” He gave an example of when he was still serving as town clerk Mbarara where he shared a no man’s land to three major religions that is Catholic, Anglican and Muslims equally, plus looking after orphans and needy people. The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Sheema district Frank Kyereere said that for the short period he has spent in Sheema, he can only describe Bashakara as a no nonsense man.
Vincent Bashakara, grandson of the deceased, asked Sheema district leaders to always look at objectivity and what someone can offer for the betterment of the community but not on religion affairs, “Mzee’s legacy today speaks volumes of development to our district. If some leaders didn’t fight him and chased him from the district service commission, where do you think Sheema would be now? Please we are tired of sectarianism in our district, look at objectivity and what a person can offer to the community for the betterment of the future.” Some of the prominent who attended burial include presidential advisor Tarsis Kabwegyere, Hon Francis Mwijukye, Hon Ngabirano Charles, Hon Nyakikongoro Rosemary, Hon Arimpa Kijaaji, Mayor Kakyebezi Robert and more than 40 Catholic priests led by Archbishop Paul Bakyenga and his auxiliary Bishop Lambert Bainomugisha
