Are We Safe? How Mawanda Road Broad Daylight Robbery Exposed Snoring Security Officers At Work

Kampala: The police are currently under fire after the robbery that happened along Mawanda road in broad daylight during the afternoon hours on Saturday last week.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the 14 violent suspects riding on seven motorbikes attacked a victim of foreign nationality identified as Jiwan Lal, an accountant working with Rigil Agrotech Company in Kololo, and robbed him of shs 5m and two phones.

Following the horrible incident, many questions are currently lingering in Ugandans hearts and heads about the safety of the communities with the fact that these boda boda men carried out this robbery in broad daylight under the watch of police with the help of CCTV cameras.

As per the President’s speech, it is not allowed for motorcycles to carry passengers, some are wondering how all the motorcyclists rode by a busy road without being caught and yet some of them were even carrying two passengers.

”What does this say about security? How can seven motorcycles carrying passengers which is currently not allowed in the country attack someone, steal his money on streets that even have cameras without security noticing?, who is in charge of these CCTV cameras and what were they doing at the time thugs trailed the victim up to the time of the attack?” questioned one of the security analysts who preferred anonymity.

Apparently, these motorcyclists followed the victim on his motorcycle for some time. in the camera footage, they surrounded his ride to make sure he does not escape.

”Isn’t this exposing loopholes in the insecurity in the country? Who is protecting us if people can steal from each other even in front of cameras?” the security analyst added.
