Kampala: HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a directive that with effect from the financial year 2021/2022, Army Construction Brigade will take over government construction sites, something he believes will not only save taxpayers money but also curb corruption among government officials.
This directive has been issued through a letter copied to H.E. the Vice President, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Minister of Defence
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defense & Veteran Affairs and Chief of Defense Forces.
”Unfortunately, I have noted with concern that many of the Government Projects in other sectors are often delayed due to lengthy procurement processes and in other cases, corruption perpetrated by some unscrupulous Government Workers. I am very certain that we can avoid all these delays in implementing Government Construction Projects by utilizing the Army Construction Brigade to undertake these works,” Museveni’s letter reads.
Museveni believes that Army Construction Brigade has been very instrumental in implementing many projects ranging from simple to high level and advanced construction projects which he says because this is part of the UPDF, the country has made a lot of savings in terms of funds and time.
It is from the above background that Museveni ordered, ”This is, therefore, to direct that with effect from the FY 2021/2022, all new construction projects for Health facilities and Schools must be undertaken by the Army Construction Brigade, as a pilot. This directive will be gradually extended to cover other sectors of the Government.”
According to force’s statistics, UPDF Engineering Brigade has over 2,500 highly trained employees who are ready to serve in all aspects.
