The clashes amongst Uganda’s opposition politicians are not about to end after Mukono municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze Bakireke released another bombshell this morning when she revealed that there is no opposition party or entity stronger than Rtd.Col.Dr. Kizza Besigye’s People’s Government at the moment! Nambooze,to be more crystal clear, she categorically said not even MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s People Power can match Besigye’s People’s Government.
Nambooze is quoted from the video clip posted on social media that has since gone viral saying thus; “Unlike other political parties, the People’s Government is fully structured right from the local government”.
Her utterances however come at a time when there is tension between Bobi Wine’s People Power pressure group and Besigye’s People’s Government, whereby both camps are clashing over superiority.Â
Whereas Bobi Wine supporters think he is the strongest opposition leader in Uganda currently, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) four-time presidential contender Besigye’s supporters don’t agree and the two sides have severally clashed over time.
People Power supporters have consistently called upon Besigye to pave way for the new blood Bobi Wine to take on the mantle as the top opposition politician in Uganda cum 2021 general elections, something his supporters and the People’s Government have since vehemently rejected.Â
Whereas People Power supporters want Bobi Wine to be fronted as the opposition presidential candidate in 2021, Besigye’s supporters don’t agree and want him to contest for presidency for the fifth time, after four failed attempts in past years.
The situation has since created a standoff between supporters of both camps and is seemingly eating into the entire opposition fraternity, something political pundits say could be detrimental to the opposition cum 2021 general elections.
Matters between both camps worsened mid this year when hooligans claiming to be People Power supporters attacked Dr Besigye outside CBS offices in Bulange Mengo, where they accused him of allegedly blocking Bobi Wine’s chances of becoming president.
However, Besigye has severally denied such allegations and keeps insisting that he is not fighting anyone in the Opposition and that all Ugandans have a right to contest for presidency so long as they qualify for the position.
