Busia: The police in Busia are investigating circumstances under which three pupils drowned in Lake Victoria, after retrieving their bodies on Tuesday.

Jackson Wandera Musooro, a fisherman at Busime landing site, said the pupils were sailing on boat, which perhaps capsized because of strong winds.
He said “I saw one of the pupils clinging on a fishing net they were using before he drowned.”

Marine Police in Busia district were later alerted by authorities at the landing site and they quickly deployed a team which recovered the bodies on Tuesday, although they had drowned around 9:00pm on Monday.

The deceased were identified as; Boniface Wafula, a P.6 pupil at Busime CDC School, Brian Osinya, P.7 candidate at Busime P/S and Timothy Mukisa, all residents of Nagubimbiswa village in Busime sub-county in Busia district.

Wilberforce Pamba Boniface, the Busime Sub county LC III chairperson, said he learnt of the accident around 9:00PM and alerted residents, who combined efforts with other local leaders to search for the bodies in vain, until they were joined by the Marine Police.
