The long-awaited speakership race has finally come to an end with Jacob Oulanyah announced as the fully elected speaker of the 11th parliament with 310 against Kadaga’s 197 votes and FDC”s Semujju Nganda 15 votes.
Oulanyah has won his former boss with a difference of 113 votes thus showing her the exit door from the seat she has held for 10 years.
Oulanyah who has been deputy Speaker for 10 years will now be in charge of affairs at the August House for the next five years, a position he left after stepping down for Kadaga on the advice of the Central Executive Committee, the ruling NRM party’s top organ in 2016.
On Sunday, CEC endorsed Oulanyah to come unopposed as the party flag bearer but Kadaga decided to stand on the independent ticket.
The next activity on agenda after Oulanyah is sworn in, vote for a deputy speaker where NRM’s Anita Among will be facing off against Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko. NRM leaning Nsereko is standing as an independent candidate.
