The latest from by-elections indicates that National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s candidate Muwonge Andrew has won Kayunga LC5 seat.
According to the results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC), Muwonge garnered 31,830 votes against NUP candidate Harriet Nakweede’s 31,380 votes.
Speaking shortly after the announcement, NUP’s spokesperson Alex Waiswa contested the results saying their candidate won the by-election with 35000 votes.
This is Nakweede’s second defeat in the 2021 elections as she first lost to Idah Nantaba in the Kayunga Woman Member of Parliament race.
