Kampala, Uganda- The Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested two businessmen from Kawaala Central Zone, Rubaga Division, over allegations of defrauding a British national, John Bridgas, of £5,970 (shs 27,375,120). The suspects, identified as Kizito Jonathan, alias Jona, 27, and Kyalimpa Titus, 20, are accused of falsely soliciting funds under the pretense of supporting an orphanage organization in Uganda.
According to police reports, the duo allegedly received the money between 2020 and 2024, claiming that the funds would be used to aid vulnerable children under the Children of God Orphanage Uganda. However, investigations have revealed that the money was misappropriated for personal use instead.

John Bridgas, a UK resident, along with other occasional donors, had been supporting the orphanage for years. However, suspicions arose when the beneficiaries failed to see any improvements or support from the funds that had been sent. After multiple failed attempts to recover the money, Bridgas, alongside other concerned donors, reported the matter to Ugandan authorities.
The arrest follows an extensive probe into fraudulent activities linked to orphanage scams, a growing concern among international donors. Authorities have confirmed that the suspects will face charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretense at the Buganda Road Court.

Police spokesperson SSP P. Onyango confirmed that the accused are currently before the Buganda Road Court, awaiting their formal appearance before the magistrate.

“We are committed to ensuring justice is served for victims of such fraudulent schemes. We urge all donors to verify organizations before making contributions,” Onyango stated.
The case highlights the increasing prevalence of financial scams targeting well-meaning donors who seek to support charitable causes in Uganda. Authorities have warned the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters exploiting humanitarian efforts for personal gain.
More updates on the case will be provided as investigations continue.
