The speaker of Parliament Anita Among has urged all relevant departments and institutions to pay attention to the great work of local village health support groups, who improve access the health and other essential services.
She made the remarks while meeting VHTs from Bukedea on Wednesday May 24th.
While speaking to the VHTs, the speaker called upon the people of Bukedea to come together in order and pursue the dream of making Bukedea a model District.
She also emphasized them to to embraced Government programs like Parish Development Model in order to improve house hold income.
In bid to improve on agriculture, the speaker donated a number of items including hoes and seedlings to VHTs.
Village Health Teams (VHTs) were established by the Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH) to: empower communities to take part in the decisions that affect their health; mobilize communities for health programs; and strengthen the delivery of health services at the household level.
Village Health Teams are made up of volunteers who are selected by their communities to provide accurate health information and link community members with available health services. After selection, VHTs receive basic training in a cross section of key health issues common in Uganda.
