National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobiliser bummy Catherine Kusasira, who is also the Presidential Adviser on Kampala Affairs, survived being lynched by an irate mob at Nabugabo beach in Masaka, on Boxing Day December 26, after suspected people power supporters in the audience threw bottles and other sharp objects demanding that she leaves stage.
Kusasira, who had been booked to perform at a gig organised by one of the top events promoters in Masaka, got the shock of her life on stage, during all her entire music career.
This is because the moment she stepped on stage, revellers started throwing bottles at her and had to be restrained by bouncers from physically attacking her, while others hurled all sorts of vulgar insults at her, with many singing People Power slogans.
Security had to be called in quickly to shield Kusasira from the bottles and other objects that parties were throwing from the audience as they booed Kusasira, before chasing her off stage.
The police and Kusasira’s guards had to quickly come in and rush her off the stage, before they whisked her into her Land Cruiser before they sped off to safety.
However, by the time she was rushed away, Kusasira was visibly shaken.
However, this is not the first time an NRM leaning artist is pelted with bottles due to their political beliefs. It should be recalled that in September 2018, Gagamel boss Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool was pelted with bottles and stones by revellers who later chased him off stage during Jamaican star Tarrus Riley’s reggae concert in Kampala.
Bebe Cool then suspended performances in Uganda and opted to perform at gigs abroad but still he was pelted with bottles by Ugandans in the Diaspora.
Meanwhile, those close to Kusasira told this reporter that she is mow taking lectures from bottle hardened Bebe Cool on how to deal with such an audience going forward, given that the political campaign has just started
