Kampala: Col.Edith Nakalema has issued orders of cancellation of land titles of the contested land in Kampala-Mutungo-Kasaawe because they were illegally acquired.

Nakalema says it’s a wetland that can neither be titled nor sold by a private individual quoting the constitution.
Nakalema who was accompanied by Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) boss Allen Kagina issued the above orders during a baraza that was hosted by the residents of Mutungo and Butabika at Kasaawe pitch. This area is one of interest in the ongoing Kampala Jinja Expressway road project.

Further, Col Nakalema instructed the surveyors to work with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to ensure that the correct boundaries between Mutungo and Butabika – one of the issues causing conflict in the area.

In her remarks, Kagina also quoted the constitution of Uganda that guides that land in swamps or wetlands cannot be titled nor sold/owned. In fact, Kagina requested Nakalema to investigate how agencies in Government-issued titles in a swamp.
”Until the request for State House Anti Corruption Unit -led investigations are concluded, there won’t be any compensation claims honoured nor paid specifically to the Kasaawe land in Mutungo/Butabika,” said Kagina.
