Kampala: Detectives at Central Police Station Kampala have this afternoon arrested a notorious car robber at Constitutional Square, trying to break into a parked car.
The notorious thug was identified as Gordon Tumwesigye, 37 years old, a resident of Kawempe division, Kampala district. Eyewitnesses reveal that Tumwesigye was arrested while trying to steal a motor vehicle that was parked at the Constitution Square, not knowing that he was being monitored on CCTV cameras. However, detectives manning the CPS CCTV command centre saw Tumwesigye on camera coming, boarding a boda-boda motorcycle and because of his suspicious movements, they started monitoring him.
He was later sighted trying to open cars doors, which raised more suspicion, prompting the CCTV camera operators to alert officers who were on ground patrolling the area. He was later arrested while trying to drive off a motor vehicle registration number UAW 317R which he had managed to break into. Shortly after being interrogated by the police, Tumwesigye confessed being a notorious car thief and told the police that he usually drives the cars he steals to DR. Congo, where he often sells them. He is currently detained at central police station on charges of stealing a motor vehicle as investigations into the matter continue.
