The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has said that he is following with deep concern the persistent military tension between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Sudan.
Faki also said in a statement that he deeply regrets the loss of life at the common borders of Sudan and Ethiopia.
The Chairperson called for a complete refrain from any military confrontation and recommended for dialogue between the two brotherly countries to end their dispute.
He noted that the recent border skirmishes should not scuttle the diplomatic solutions aimed to resolve ongoing internal challenges in the two member states.
Chairperson Faki urged the parties to continue to contribute to a peaceful resolution of the border dispute under the auspices of the AU Border Program.
The senior regional envoy expressed the conviction that the long-standing brotherly relations between Ethiopia and Sudan, and their enviable status as founding Member States of the OAU/AU, will mutually oblige both parties to immediately cease all hostilities in the prevailing interest of regional stability and collective security.
