Kampala: Lady Doves, Uganda’s representatives at inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers (CECAFA zone) are through to the semi-finals after defeating PVP FC of Burundi 3-0 in their final group game played at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
Spencer Nakacwa, Norah Alupo and Fazila Ikwaput scored the goals.
The FUFA Women Super League Champions finished second in Group A with seven points behind Simba Queens of Tanzania who topped the group courtesy of superior goal difference. The ladies from Tanzania humbled FAD FC 10-0 in the final group fixture played concurrently at Kasarani Stadium.
The match was graced by the FUFA president Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim together with 1st Vice President, Justus Mugisha and FUFA EXCO Member Rogers Rogers Byamukama who after the final whistle congratulated the team upon qualification from the group and assured them of the Federation’s support in their quest to bring the regional trophy to Uganda on top of booking the important ticket to the CAF Women Champions League finals in Egypt.
‘‘We are so proud of your performance as our Champions, thank you for representing us very well. For qualifying for the semis you will be receiving $100 dollars each and this is already in the bag. This will increase to $300 if you reach the final and $500 if you eventually win the championship and qualify for the Champions League finals in Egypt,’’ stated the FUFA President while addressing the players.
‘‘Lady Doves are Champions of our women’s top division and the efforts we do in men’s club football must be done for Women’s Football so their efforts are worth congratulating and rewarding,’’ he added.
Lady Doves Chairman, Julius Mugisa was full of praise for the President’s visit and the monetary incentives to the team saying that the gesture means a lot to him and the entire women football community of different stakeholders.
‘The FUFA President’s visit together with members of his EXCO means a lot to the girls as he has assured them that Uganda is behind them. I am so happy and want to thank him for the monetary incentives to the girls. The girls’ morale is so much boosted and I am sure they will do their best to win the championship,’’ Mugisa stated.
Lady Doves will now play Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in the semi-finals on Monday 6th September 2021 at 4pm in Nyayo National Stadium.
