Celebrated singer Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone is wanted by police at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in Nakawa, for allegedly insulting one of their enforcement officers, who on Easter Sunday accosted him at Mengo Palace, where he had gone to perform at a private birthday party for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
Our Spies reveal that although Kabaka Mutebi’s actual birthday is today, Monday 13th April, he decided to celebrate his 65th birthday on Easter Sunday, due to the COVID-19 lockdown that couldn’t make it possible to celebrate the day on Monday.
So the King decided to hold a private Easter Birthday party, and he invited a few of the Royal family members who celebrated the big day with him.
However, to hype the entertainment, the Kabaka’s minders hired singer Chameleone to perform at the private Easter Birthday party.
But the moment Chameleone parked his swanky monster Land Cruiser vehicle, a URA operative accosted the singer and demanded for the papers pertaining to tax clearance for the vehicle.
A very arrogant and boastful Chameleone, is seen in a video that has since gone viral on social media, pushing and spitting verbal artillery at the URA enforcement officer.
“You people of URA, when do you rest? Can you let me first do the Kabaka’s job, then I will give you the papers. I left the papers at home,” Chameleone is heard shouting.
The helpless URA operative tells him that; Mr. Mayanja, all I want to see are the papers. I am an enforcement officer.”
Chameleone ends up assuring the URA Officer that; “Can you imagine…you’re here but Christ is risen. Can’t you rest? If you want papers will you follow me to my home, because that’s where they are.
The hapless URA operative humbly ends up assuring Chameleone that he will follow him up to his home of indeed the papers are there.
How Chameleone Acquired the Land Cruiser
Spies reveal that the Land Cruiser was given to him by a South Sudanese businesswoman, but due to hefty taxes he failed to pay URA to acquire Ugandan number plates.
But since then Chameleone has been cruising around town in the posh white Toyota Land Cruiser V8. Reports indicate that Uganda Revenue Authority officials got concerned about the singer driving the car with no plates.
Reports reveal that Chameleone has to pay close to Shs200m in taxes to drive his monster gift car in peace on Ugandan road but he has since been playing hide and seek.
A source intimated to us that the ‘Mateeka’ singer is in more trouble with URA since he has not remitted any taxes yet he has been cruising around town Scot-free.
Sources say the singer has for a long time been hunted down for failing to meet his tax obligations and could be arrested soon, because he has been on the run until Easter Sunday when the URA enforcement officer cornered him Lubiri, in Mengo.
We have learnt that for the past few weeks he allegedly received numerous calls from URA that the car will be impounded if he doesn’t meet the deadline to clear their dues but he never paid heed.
It is said that Chameleone got the car as a gift from a South Sudan businesswoman cum Sugar Mama Achai Wiir. After being gifted with the brand new vehicle, Chameleone chose to drive back to Uganda.
Chameleone composed a song for the businesswoman titled ‘Achai Wiir’ before she donated the car to
Sources say he refused to travel by air as had earlier been scheduled for him. Since then, the singer has been driving the car in Kampala with no number plates.
