Tanzania Women’s Premier League champions Simba Queens FC have qualified for the semi final stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League 2022 – CECAFA Zone qualifier.

Coach Sebastian Leonard Nkoma’s side swept aside She Corporate FC (Uganda) 2-0 in a Group B match played at the Azam Complex, Chamazi in Tanzania on Wednesday.

Kenyan international Vivian Aquino Corazone opened with a well taken free kick after 21 minutes to give She Corporate goalkeeper Daphine Nyayenga no chance. After 61 minutes Pambani Kuzoya made it 2-0 as the home side were dominant.

Anitah Namata and Cissy Nantongo had some decent scoring opportunities for the Ugandan side, but failed to utilize them.

Simba Queens who won their opening match 6-0 against Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine FC have now qualified for the knockout stage with six points with one more game left in the group stage against Yei Joint Stars.

“ I am glad that my team has qualified for the semi final stage after scoring eight goals and conceded none. We need to make sure we also win the last group match against Yei Joint Stars,” Simba Queens head coach Nkoma said.

Simba Queens FC captain Fatuma Issa Suleimani made it clear that the team is very motivated to perform well in these qualifiers. “After missing out last year, we are determined to win and qualify for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League,” added the defender.

Charles Lukula Ayiekoh, the She Corporate head coach said his team over respected the Simba Queens side. “We started well, but failed to maintain the control against a team that grew in confidence. But we shall work hard and make sure we win our last group match to qualify for the semi final,” added Ayiekoh.

In the second Group B match played on Wednesday, South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars humbled Garde Republicaine FC 6-0.

Stephen Debora Luka Alworonga scored four goals, while Mariam Lasabu picked a brace to ensure Yei Joint Stars FC picked maximum points.
