Jinja: Police in Jinja District is on a hunt for two security guards who on a fateful Wednesday 24 July evening at around 8:00pm foiled a robbery at KCB bank.
It is alleged that two security guards attached to Pinnacle Security ltd put bank officials on gun point with intentions of robbing the bank.
However the move was interrupted by the Bank Manager who had stepped out. On return, he found his staff on gunpoint thus tipping off police which shares a wall with the bank.
Kiira regional Police Spokesperson, Ms Diana Nandaula confirmed news saying
it was true the robbery had been staged at the bank located on Jinja Main
Street by private guards deployed to secure it.
“The incident happened at around 8pm. They first switched off the lights and
perhaps when they noticed that police was alert, they fled and abandoned the
gun,” Ms Nandaula said.
When asked how many they were, she said she was not sure of the number but detectives were still deployed at the bank conducting investigations.
A boda boda cyclist who declined to be named, said one of the bank staff had
gone to the ATM to withdraw money when he noticed the lights inside the banking
hall were conspicuously off yet they’re always on.
“When he pushed the door to check, the guards pulled him inside, stripped him
of all his mobile phones but he managed to get loose and fled to Jinja Central
Police Station.
Two tellers, all female, have been taken into custody as police continue with investigations.
Fred Enanga the Police spokesperson said, the trio fled the scene abandoning one gun and no one was hurt.
Mr Henry Batambuze, the LC Chairman Main Street East village, suspects a connivance between robbers and staff.
