Celebrated athlete Joshua Cheptegei has Sunday raised the Ugandan flag high after he clocked 12 minutes and 51 seconds at the Monaco Run in France, thereby setting a new 5 km World Record.
The 10,000m world champion made the most of perfect conditions in the second edition of this race to improve on Kenyan Rhonex Kipruto’s previous best of 13 min 18sec last month in Valencia.
The athelete had tweeted thus on Saturday evening “Excited to see how fast I can run tomorrow at @monacorun. It’s gonna be my first race of 2020 and you know what? It’s a very important year of the Olympic games.”
He added that “So my journey is gonna start from Monaco. All the best to me and everyone competing tomorrow.”
It should be noted that Cheptegei took 10,000m gold at the world championships in Doha last October, while Kipruto took bronze.
