The judiciary has Monday issued a notice to parties involved announcing that the age limit appeal judgment is to be delivered this Thursday at 10am.
Earlier today morning, City lawyer Godfrey Male Mabirizi dragged the Chief Justice and the Attorney General to court for a mandamus order compelling them to deliver the age limit appeal judgment that he said had delayed.
Not to wait for more embarrassment from the cantankerous man, the Supreme Court Registrar issued a notice in the afternoon indicating that the justices were finally more ready than ever before to deliver the judgment this Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 10am!
“Take notice that the judgment of this appeal has been fixed for the 18th day of April 2019 at 10am .If no appearance is made by yourself, your pleader or by someone by law authorized to act for you, the judgment will be delivered in your absence,” read part of the notice.
The notice was also copied to all the parties involved in the matter before the Supreme Court.
Last year, the Constitutional Court sitting in Mbale in a 4:1 decision, upheld the scrapping of the presidential age limit clauses from the Constitution by Parliament prompting a group of three parties including the Uganda Law Society, lawyer Male Mabirizi and 6 opposition MPs led by Winnie Kiiza to challenge the decision before the Supreme Court.
After completion of the hearing session for the age limit appeal in January this year, the Chief Justice, Bart Katureebe said the Supreme Court would deliver its judgment on notice.
However, Male Mabirizi, one of the petitioners went to court asking for an order compelling the Chief Justice as the head of the Supreme Court to deliver the ruling.
The application by Mabirizi now seems to be overtaken by events after the court said it would deliver the judgment on Thursday.
